Opinion Piece

An opinion piece/editorial is a piece of writing in a newspaper where the author can speak their mind, rather than having to present the facts in a non-biased way. I agree with Priyanca Radhakrishnan when she says that our "systems are ready" if there's a case of coronavirus in New Zealand. While face masks are running out fast, healthcare systems have fool-proof strategies in place.

Captain Cook Essay

Captain Cook went to New Zealand on the Endeavour in 1769. He travelled there for supplies and trading, and stayed there longer than intended. They were possibly dehydrated and needed to find land. The fact that they stayed there changed New Zealand’s future, and for the better or for the worse is what many people have been debating. 

When the Endeavour’s crew arrived at Gisborne, a person was shot almost immediately (he was called Te Maro, and was quite possibly going to be the next chief). That was the Maoris first experience with guns, or, as they called it, ‘firesticks’. People around New Zealand thought that Cook was a brave man, while those in Gisborne thought otherwise. Many wanted to see and meet Cook.
Early life can sometimes influence who someone is as an older person in life. James Cook was eighteen when he went to Whitby to be apprenticed to a ship’s crew for three years. Life as a grocer’s employee didn’t work out at all, so his employer introduced him to a couple of friends. James had been employed by the man for a year. The three years onboard encouraged Cook to be on the sea as a profession.
The Cook’s lived nearby Whitby, with ten in the family. He had seven siblings; John, Christiana, Mary, Jane, Mary (a different Mary than the first), Margaret and William. James farmed alongside his father, who was a Scottish farmhand, until he left to go to Staithes. Once Cook’s three-year apprenticeship was over, he joined the Royal Navy, and at the age of twenty-one was considered as an able seaman, something uncommon for somebody his age. He was the second-oldest.
Endeavour’s crew were possibly dehydrated and needed to find land. James Cook had a poor background but raised the stakes for seamen of that age. He had six children, but not one of them lived long enough to have children of their own. James Cook sucessfully completed the original map of New Zealand.

Lawyer Paragraph

Everybody should visit another country than their own. Going to another place expands your knowledge of other cultures. It allows you to step out of your comfort zone for a while, and experience the world outside of your own. People who visit other countries will have more options about where they could live. They’ll meet new people and go to new places, which is considered by the vast majority of us to be good. Travelling alone is an effective way to get to know yourself. Travelling with others is a way to understand your companions, not just yourself. Everyone should get out of their home country and go somewhere different. 
Having a scaffold such as the set slide was helpful for me to organise my ideas. It's more difficult for me to write from my point of view/writing an argument, rather than writing fiction. In writing from your point of view, you have to decide if that's really your thoughts, or if it's just something that's expected to be your view. Writing fiction is much easier, because there isn't really any right or wrong. 

Tupaia - A Short Review Of

Tupaia, a Polynesian who travelled with Captain Cook, was a navigator who used the stars for guidance. Tupaia was fluent in many Pasifika languages, and translated to Cook (in English), although he had to learn English onboard. Tupaia hasn't been credited for his involvement in Cook's voyage to Aotearoa because that occurred in a racist time. In short, Tupaia was (and is) an unsung hero due to timing.

Action Plan For Equity

In 9T Int, we (Jessica, Hannah, Karen, Lily, Alana and I) are doing an Action Plan for Equity. We would like everyone who suffers from anxiety not to miss out on things that they would like to do. For instance. Some people who have social anxiety will fake a sickness to avoid going places, and they might actually want to go there, but because of their anxiety, they make an excuse not to go. We were thinking something along the lines of animal therapy (after research, we realised that animals actually help). We are up to the stage where we are asking members of staff for help and advice to make our plan possible.
